YWCA
of Trenton "In Celebration of Women" Luncheon on May
15th
The YWCA of Trenton presents the Eighth Annual "In Celebration
of Women" awards luncheon on Wednesday, May 15, 2002 from
11:30 a.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Roman Hall in Trenton.
The
Luncheon honors those who, through distinguished contributions
to the community, embody the YWCA of Trenton's mission of the
empowerment of women and girls and the elimination of racism.
This
year's honorees are:

Shirley Turner, New Jersey Senator, who will receive the Woman
of Achievement Award, presented to a woman who has attained distinction
in her field and promotes equal opportunity to others.
·
Jessica Melore, a college student who has overcome significant
health problems and become a champion for organ donation, will
receive the Woman of Inspiration Award, recognizing a woman who
has overcome adversity in her life to make a profound impact on
others.
·
Irene Farley, a dedicated volunteer for several area organizations,
will receive the Meta Griffith Community Service Award, for a
woman who supports the community through her exemplary volunteer
service.
·
Sherry Ritter, former YWCA of Trenton Board President and a principal
of the Mount/Ritter Group in Hamilton, will receive the Ethel
Downing Johnson Memorial Award, honoring a woman who has demonstrated
a sincere commitment to the mission and purpose of the YWCA of
Trenton.
·
Sovereign Bank will receive the Organizational Commitment Award,
presented to an organization that provides innovative policies,
practices and attitudes that enables women to excel in the workplace.
Proceeds
from the luncheon will be used to fund the YWCA of Trenton's many
activities, including the multicultural programs (Latinas Unidas
and Racial Justice), supportive housing services (Dunham Hall
Residence and Homeless Hotline), children and youth services (Trenton
After School Program and Hamilton Nursery School), and health-related
programs (Health/Fitness and Breast Cancer Awareness).
