Mystery
Muncher: Joe's
Mill Hill Saloon
Some things in life are taken for granted. Because of that one
tends to overlook the obvious, and every once in a while you need
to remind people, "Hey, what about Joe's?"
We are talking Joe's Mill Hill Saloon on the corner of Broad
and Market, of course one of Trenton's great lunch meeting places.
Not to mention a great place for dinner and after dinner meetings
as well.
Actually it doesn't matter
if you need to sit down with
someone where you need intimacy in a comfortable room, Joe's has
it, front room or back. When you walk in take a second to let
your eye's adjust by reading the special blackboard menu. It always
holds a tasty list of unusual non-menu items. I have had lunch,
dinner and snacks in the back, main dining and at the bar. You
get to go where your mood strikes you.
The beer selection is very good to excellent and Denny makes
a very good martini. On my particular adventure, Todd was working
and being a very busy boy. He worked four sets of folks at the
bar and three tables in the main room all by himself and never
dropped the ball (or spilled a drop) once.
I waded through a series of imported beers starting with a Heineken,
Bass and St. Pauli Girl but Todd talked me into Orangeboom and
he was correct. I believe it to be German but I know it to be
quite refreshing and crisp. I stayed with this for the remainder
of my excursion.
Chris
showed up a short time later and she helped Todd out as the crowd
swelled a bit. In the past, I have ordered the nachos grande (great
for sharing at meetings), reubens, chicken Caesar salad and steaks.
But tonight I had my favorite: Joe's Mill Hill Burger with cheese,
lettuce, tomatoes onion and a side of home made french fries that
are just out of this world.
Now normally I include prices with all the items I mention but
I left the menu at Joe's. However, after the sample of nachos
or a burger you'll get the bill and you'll always have the same
reaction I have had after all these years: "How can he do
this for so little?"
Anyway, you get the point. Joe's has great inexpensive food,
is a great meeting place, has a great selection of beer, wonderful
company, and a wonderful owner. Go see Denny over at Joe's and
put your hunger to rest. You'll leave satisfied and promising
yourself you'll be back soon.
